Kompany furious over Musiala's broken leg

Bayern coach Vincent Kompany expressed his anger at PSG goalkeeper Gigi Donnarumma after a challenge that left Jamal Musiala with a broken leg in the FIFA Club World Cup quarter-final on 5/7.

"I've rarely been this angry at half-time and not at my own players," Kompany said at the post-match press conference. "Musiala had just returned from injury, and now this happens. My blood was boiling, not because of the result, but because such a football lover got injured."

Kompany acknowledged Musiala's uncertain condition. Bayern is awaiting test results to determine the treatment plan. "Looking at the images, it's clear he has a very serious ankle injury, but I won't make a diagnosis here," the Bayern coach said.

The incident occurred at the end of the first half of the Club World Cup quarter-final. Donnarumma caught the ball in the penalty area but slid into Musiala, breaking the German player's left leg. The PSG goalkeeper was not penalized as he had caught the ball. However, the aftermath of the collision shocked onlookers.

"When you jump on Jamal's leg with a 100 kg body, the risk of injury is very high," Bayern sporting director Max Eberl said, criticizing Donnarumma. "It's tragic, but I don't believe he did it intentionally. He put others at risk while catching the ball, but I don't want this to be interpreted as an accusation."

According to Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, the collision was an unfortunate incident that any player should avoid. It highlights the inherent risks of playing and the need to be prepared for potential injuries caused by opponents.

Neuer revealed that he spoke directly to Donnarumma. "I asked, 'Aren't you going to visit my teammate?' It's a matter of respect—at least go and wish him a speedy recovery," the Bayern goalkeeper said. "He did so afterward. Fair play is always part of football. If it were me, I would have reacted differently."

PSG coach Luis Enrique expressed regret over the unfortunate incident involving Musiala and wished the German player a swift recovery. "Donnarumma didn't mean to hurt him. PSG is not a violent team or one that likes to foul," Enrique added.

In the match on 5/7, Desire Doue scored in the 78th minute, and Ousmane Dembele sealed a 2-0 victory in the 90+6th minute for PSG. Between the 82nd and 90+2nd minutes, Willian Pacho and Lucas Hernandez received straight red cards, but Bayern couldn't find a goal. PSG will face Real Madrid in the semi-final on 10/7. The other semi-final will be contested between Chelsea and Fluminense.
