Harry Maguire, 33, expressed frustration over the perception that his form at Man Utd has "revived." The center-back believes such narratives distort reality. "I honestly think that for six seasons, I have played very well," the England international said. "I wish it were seven out of seven, but one period of decline led to constant discussion."
Maguire feels that being linked to a comeback narrative overshadows his consistent contributions. He believes his current form is a continuation of an already stable foundation. "People call it a revival, but for me, it's just continuing to play as I always have," he added.

Maguire also demonstrated strong self-confidence in assessing his abilities. "Even at this age, I can still be one of the world's best defenders, both defensively and offensively," he asserted.
This statement highlights his confidence, despite a difficult period. Maguire views this self-belief as crucial for thriving in a high-pressure environment like Man Utd. "I have always had great faith in myself, and that helps me get through tough times," he noted.
Maguire admitted his career has not been flawless. A period of decline began in the summer of 2021, marked by two consecutive major defeats: Man Utd's Europa League final loss and England's Euro 2020 failure. "That summer was truly painful. Perhaps I didn't handle it as well as I should have," he reflected.
Difficulties persisted at Man Utd as the team started poorly, leading to coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's sacking. Maguire felt he bore significant responsibility for the team's underperforming displays before Solskjaer's departure.

Beyond professional pressure, Maguire became a target of social media attacks. A study by the Alan Turing Institute found he received 8,954 abusive posts in the season's first half, ranking second highest in the Premier League. The England center-back admitted these criticisms affected his family more than himself.
A forgettable moment for Maguire occurred at national team level in a 2023 match against Scotland. Coming on as a substitute, he was jeered by opposing fans with every touch, before scoring an own goal. "There were times I wondered why things went so far," he recalled.
However, Maguire believes the criticisms sometimes crossed the line. He cited being ridiculed in the Ghanaian parliament and receiving bomb threats at his home.
Despite that period, Maguire chose not to leave, unlike many other players. He revealed having transfer opportunities as his contract neared its end but decided to stay and help Man Utd compete for objectives. On 7/4, he extended his contract for one year, preparing for his eighth season at Old Trafford.
Maguire returned to the starting lineup under Michael Carrick after overcoming injury. Although he no longer holds the captain's armband, the center-back remains important in the defensive system.
At national team level, Maguire is striving to regain his place under Thomas Tuchel, despite competition from other center-backs. He affirmed his readiness to play any role to participate in the 2026 World Cup.
