Man City defeats Juventus 5-2 in FIFA Club World Cup

Dominating Juventus in their final group stage match, Man City secured the top spot in Group G of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

With this victory, Man City finished with 9 points and will face the second-place team from Group H in the round of 16. Juventus finished with 6 points and will face the Group H winner.

In Group H, before the final matches, Real Madrid leads with 4 points, ahead of Salzburg on goal difference. If the standings remain unchanged, Real Madrid will face Juventus, while Salzburg will play against Man City in the next round.

With Man City and Juventus already qualified for the next round, their final group stage encounter determined the group winner. Trailing on goal difference, Pep Guardiola's team needed a win to secure the top spot.

At Camping World Stadium in Orlando on 26/6, Man City achieved their objective with a commanding performance. They dominated possession with 77%, taking 24 shots with 11 on target, compared to Juventus's 5 shots and 2 on target. The English side could have won by a larger margin had they been more clinical.

In the 9th minute, new signing Rayan Ait-Nouri played a through ball to Jeremy Doku, who burst into the penalty area from the left wing. The Belgian forward feigned a shot to beat Pierre Kalulu before placing the ball into the far corner to open the scoring.

Man City's lead lasted just over a minute. Goalkeeper Ederson's misplaced pass allowed Teun Koopmeiners to intercept and fire a powerful shot into the near corner, equalizing for Juventus.

In the 26th minute, Man City regained the lead, again thanks to a defensive error from Juventus. Matheus Nunes surged down the left flank and crossed into the penalty area, where no teammate was present. However, under no pressure, defender Pierre Kalulu inadvertently deflected the ball into his own net.

Man City's attack exploded in the second half, scoring three goals through Erling Haaland, Phil Foden, and Savinho. Haaland's tap-in marked his 300th career goal for club and country at the age of 24.

Juventus managed a consolation goal through striker Dusan Vlahovic five minutes before the final whistle.
