Man City loans out Grealish, targets Rodrygo

Man City may part ways with wingers Jack Grealish and Savinho, then target Real Madrid's Rodrygo.

According to ESPN, on 11/8, Man City reached an agreement to loan Grealish to Everton without a purchase option. The English midfielder will undergo a medical examination today and could debut in Everton's Premier League opener against Leeds United on 18/8.

Grealish was also a target for Serie A champions Napoli. However, the 29-year-old preferred to remain in the Premier League and is expected to help usher in a new era at Everton's newly opened Hil Dickinson Stadium.

On the same day, Man City received a 58 million USD offer from Tottenham for Savinho. Man City is reluctant to sell the Brazilian winger but may reconsider if Tottenham increases their bid to 67.2 million USD.

Tottenham aims to strengthen their attack after selling Son Heung-min to Los Angeles FC for a record 26 million USD. Attacking midfielder James Maddison suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in his right knee and will be sidelined for most of the 2025-2026 season.

If Savinho departs, Man City will target Rodrygo as a replacement. According to Fichajes, Pep Guardiola's team is prepared to submit a 116 million USD offer to Real Madrid, comprising a 93 million USD transfer fee and 23 million USD in add-ons. Two other Premier League giants, Arsenal and Liverpool, are also interested in Rodrygo.

In May, Marca reported that Rodrygo was no longer keen on playing for Real Madrid, feeling overshadowed by Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappe. The media attention on the two European stars reportedly left Rodrygo feeling isolated at the Bernabeu, despite earlier hopes that he would lead Real Madrid's attack alongside fellow Brazilian Vinicius.

Earlier this summer, Man City acquired four new players: Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Cherki, Marcus Bettinelli, and Rayan Ait-Nouri for the FIFA Club World Cup. However, Guardiola's team underperformed, losing 3-4 to Al Hilal in the round of 16.

Grealish joined Man City in the summer of 2021 for a then-record British transfer fee of around 139 million USD. The 29-year-old played a key role in the team's treble-winning 2022-2023 season. But he lost his starting position in the past two seasons, starting only 7 Premier League matches in 2024-2025, with one goal and one assist. This summer, Grealish was excluded from Man City's 27-player squad for the FIFA Club World Cup. Coach Pep Guardiola also publicly urged him to find a new club.

Savinho joined Man City from Girona last summer for 38 million USD. In the 2024-2025 season, the Brazilian winger scored three goals and provided 13 assists in 48 appearances across all competitions.
