According to European media, Man Utd has approached PSG to explore the possibility of signing Donnarumma, Italy's number one goalkeeper, who has only one year left on his contract with the Parisian club.

Man Utd's current goalkeeper is Andre Onana. Having arrived from Inter Milan in July 2023 for over 60 million USD amid high expectations, the Cameroonian keeper's performance has declined. His recurring errors contributed to Old Trafford ending the previous season trophyless, putting his future in doubt.
However, Donnarumma's transfer fee and salary are reportedly significantly higher than Onana's, making the deal unlikely unless Man Utd offloads more high-earning players.
This summer, they loaned Marcus Rashford to Barca. However, players like Jadon Sancho, Antony, and Alejandro Garnacho remain on the potential transfer list.
Not only Man Utd, but Chelsea is also said to have contacted PSG about Donnarumma. The London club has three goalkeepers: Robert Sanchez, Filip Jorgensen, and young talent Gabriel Slonina, but none have proven entirely reliable.
Donnarumma, who debuted for AC Milan at 16, solidified his reputation by winning Euro 2020 with Italy and claiming the Player of the Tournament award. Following this achievement, he joined PSG on a free transfer and became their first-choice goalkeeper for the past four seasons, contributing significantly to their treble last season (Champions League, Ligue 1, and French Cup).
However, Donnarumma's position isn't entirely secure. Since parting ways with superstars like Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi, and Neymar, PSG has been actively rebuilding, aiming to reduce their wage bill and rejuvenate the squad. An inconsistent performance at the FIFA Club World Cup, where PSG reached the final but suffered a heavy defeat to Chelsea, also cost Donnarumma favor with manager Luis Enrique.
The 2025-2026 Premier League season kicks off in two weeks. In the first round, Chelsea faces Crystal Palace on 17/8, while Man Utd hosts Arsenal at Old Trafford. The two teams will meet on 20/9, immediately after the first round of Champions League group stage matches. However, Man Utd will not participate in European competition next season, a first since the 2014-2015 season, after finishing 15th last season – their lowest in the Premier League era.
