Manchester United is set to incur a significant financial burden, with an estimated expenditure of 21,4 million USD for Ruben Amorim and his coaching staff following the Portuguese manager's dismissal. The club's financial report, released on 28/2, included a provision of "21,4 million USD, the maximum amount that could arise, to cover future settlement payments."
The precise sum Manchester United will pay Amorim is contingent on specific contract clauses, notably whether the 41-year-old manager secures a new position within a timeframe outlined in the agreement.
In total, Manchester United could face a total cost of 36,3 million USD for Amorim's recruitment and subsequent dismissal. The Old Trafford club had previously paid 11,2 million USD in 10/2024 to buy out Amorim's contract with Sporting Lisbon, alongside an additional 1,2 million USD to secure his immediate start.

Under his contract with Manchester United, which was set to run until 6/2027, Amorim was slated to receive 8,7 million USD annually. This means the club must pay approximately 13,5 million USD for the remaining duration of his contract following his dismissal.
If Manchester United is compelled to fully compensate Amorim and his staff, the cumulative cost for managerial and executive dismissals could approach 40,4 million USD in just 15 months. Previously, manager Erik ten Hag and director Dan Ashworth had already incurred costs of 19,5 million USD for the club.
Amorim departed Manchester United after a draw against Leeds in the Premier League on 5/1, following his public criticism of the club's board. He was initially replaced by Darren Fletcher, before Michael Carrick was appointed as interim manager.
Under Carrick, Manchester United secured six wins and one draw in his seven matches, propelling them to third place in the Premier League and back into contention for a Champions League spot. In contrast, under Amorim's leadership, Manchester United achieved 25 victories from 63 matches, resulting in a 15th-place finish in the Premier League last season.
