Man Utd's new signing, Bryan Mbeumo, is looking for a chess opponent within the team to "test his wits". Dutch striker Joshua Zirkzee may be a potential contender.
"I heard Zirkzee also plays, maybe I should bring out the board and have a match with him," Mbeumo told ESPN on 29/7.

Mbeumo often plays chess online anonymously and always places a real board in front of him when competing against opponents unaware of his professional football career. The Cameroon striker believes there are many similarities between football and chess.
"Playing chess doesn't require physical exertion, but it demands a lot of thinking," the Man Utd newcomer explained. "It's the same in football; you have to anticipate the next few moves and have a clear strategy. The two disciplines can really connect with each other."
Mbeumo considers playing chess an ideal way to elevate his footballing mindset. "I've watched YouTube videos and practiced through apps," he said. "I think chess is really good for the brain. You spend most of your day playing football, so sometimes you don't have the opportunity to develop other skills. I enjoy things related to creativity."
Beyond chess, Mbeumo also taught himself to play the piano as a way to relax outside of football. Despite regularly playing in front of tens of thousands of spectators each week, the 25-year-old striker gets nervous when performing in front of friends or family at home.
"Piano has nothing to do with football. It's just a way for me to relax and have some time for myself," he said. "I don't get stage fright, but I still feel a bit shy when playing in front of a few friends."
Last week, Mbeumo completed his move to Man Utd from Brentford for a total fee of 95 million USD. The Cameroon star chose Man Utd because of the ambitious project under manager Ruben Amorim, despite being pursued by Newcastle and Tottenham.
"I spoke with a few other managers to hear about their plans, but Man Utd's project really suits me," Mbeumo said. "Man Utd is a big club, and I'm someone who likes a challenge. I think this is a great opportunity."

Having joined the squad a week later than his new teammates, Mbeumo will not play in the friendly match against Bournemouth at 8:30 AM Hanoi time on Tuesday. He could make his debut in the final match on US soil against Everton at 4 AM on 4/8.
