In first-half stoppage time, Musiala attempted to control a powerful pass from Michael Olise. Donnarumma rushed out to collect the ball as Willian Pacho tried to block Musiala's run. The impact left the German midfielder on the ground in agony with a visibly broken left ankle.

Several players turned away, covering their faces with their shirts upon seeing the extent of Musiala's injury, while Donnarumma sat down inside the penalty area, looking distraught. The incident was not replayed on the big screen at the Mercedes Benz Stadium.
The referee blew the whistle for halftime while Musiala was receiving treatment on the pitch. Serge Gnabry replaced his compatriot at the start of the second half.
After the match, coach Vincent Kompany expressed his anger over his player's serious injury, rather than the elimination from the tournament. "It doesn't look good. Just from the images, it looks like an ankle injury, but I won't make a diagnosis here," the Belgian manager said.

Achraf Hakimi and Desire Doue were among the first PSG players to offer their support and wish Musiala a speedy recovery. "It's part of football. Now we wish Musiala all the best in his recovery," Doue said.
"We want to see Musiala back on the pitch soon because he is a great player," Hakimi added.
Bayern captain, Manuel Neuer, criticized Donnarumma for a dangerous challenge that resulted in his teammate's serious injury. "That's a situation where you don't need to go in like that. It was reckless. He accepted the risk of injuring the opponent," the German goalkeeper said.
Neuer also revealed that he spoke directly to the Italian goalkeeper. "I asked him, 'Aren't you going to visit my teammate?' It's a matter of respect – at least come and wish him a speedy recovery," the 39-year-old said. "Then he did. Fair play is always a part of football. If it were me, I would have reacted differently."
According to BILD, initial examinations revealed that Musiala suffered a broken left fibula and ligament damage. The Bayern star is expected to be sidelined for 4 to 5 months.
