"During our training sessions in Mallorca, Rafa repeatedly told me to play more bravely and decisively. He advised me to trust myself in crucial moments," Zverev said on the Nothing Major program on 5/8. "I already knew that, but hearing it directly from Rafa made a difference."

Zverev has faced Nadal 11 times, losing 7 of those matches. Their last encounter was at Roland Garros 2024. Nadal's farewell Grand Slam clay match was a defeat against Zverev in the first round last year.
"Rafa believes I have the ability to attack with high intensity, even when I'm in a difficult position because I move well. But when I hesitate or become indecisive, I'm vulnerable and lose my rhythm. That's when I'm not myself," Zverev added. "The week at Rafa's academy helped me immensely."
After his surprising loss at Wimbledon, Zverev went to the Rafa Nadal Academy to recover physically and mentally, and to explore new training methods. There, the German player received direct support from Nadal on various aspects.
"We had dinners that lasted until 1 a.m. In the middle of a meal, Rafa would stand up and demonstrate a forehand. He showed me the specific techniques he wanted me to improve," Zverev shared. "I'm truly grateful. He's an amazing person."
Besides Rafa, Zverev also received assistance from Toni Nadal during training sessions, leading to rumors of a future collaboration. Although unlikely in the near future, Zverev believes Nadal's uncle will adjust his schedule to work with him more next year.
"Toni has many responsibilities at the academy. His schedule is quite full, so I'm not sure which events he'll join me at this year," Zverev revealed about inviting Toni to be his head coach. "I think from next season, we'll see him more often."
Zverev is currently competing in the Masters 1000 tournament in Canada. In the quarterfinals, the 28-year-old defeated defending champion Alexei Popyrin 6-7, 6-4, 6-3, and will face Karen Khachanov in the semifinals.
