Argentina is experiencing one of its coldest periods on record, with heavy snowfall making it one of the coldest places on the planet.
Located 20km from Ushuaia, the Tierra Mayor Valley, with its over 29,000 hectares of forest, transforms into a winter wonderland each year, perfect for snow-based activities.
The valley recently hosted the Snow Trail Running race, with nearly 100 runners participating on 29/6. The race took place amidst continuous snowfall and temperatures plummeting to -19°C, testing the runners' physical and mental endurance.

"Even my eyelashes froze," one runner commented after crossing the finish line.
In the men's category, Ezequiel Dawson Schapochnik won with a time of 40 minutes and 17 seconds. He was followed by Sergio Lopez (45 minutes and 13 seconds) and Alberto Rodriguez (45 minutes and 45 seconds).
In the women's category, Cristina Bustos took first place with a time of 50 minutes and 25 seconds. Evangelina Arroyabe (52 minutes and 20 seconds) and Elba Graciela Moran (52 minutes and 35 seconds) secured the second and third positions, respectively.
The snow-covered course, with sections of moderate difficulty, allowed runners to enjoy the snowy forest scenery and the tranquility of the Fuegian plains. Organizers praised the runners' spirit and the event's safety, which proceeded smoothly despite the challenging weather.
Earlier this year, 50 runners competed in even colder conditions, -50°C, in Siberia, Russia, at the 2025 Pole of Cold–Oymyakon Marathon. However, this wasn't the coldest race on record. The 2022 edition of the same race was held at -53°C, breaking the Guinness World Record.
