Nguyen Thi Oanh dominates national athletics championships

Unchallenged in the 3,000m steeplechase, Bac Giang native Nguyen Thi Oanh secured her fourth gold medal at the 2025 national athletics championships.

The Bac Ninh athlete faced no obstacles, leading from the start and effortlessly clearing the hurdles and water jumps.

In the women's heptathlon, Hoang Thanh Giang (Hai Phong) won gold with a total of 5,481 points, setting a new national record, surpassing the previous mark of 5,440 points set by Nguyen Linh Na in 2022.

The Hung Yen team took silver, while the hosts Da Nang (pictured) won bronze.

Oanh finished in 10 minutes 14.22 seconds. This was the Vietnamese athlete's 4th gold medal, adding to her victories in the 5,000m, 1,500m, and 10,000m. She also became the athlete with the most gold medals at this year's championships.

Hanoi topped the overall medal table with 8 golds, 5 silvers, and 2 bronzes. TP HCM followed with 8 golds, 2 silvers, and 2 bronzes, while hosts Da Nang and Quan Doi tied for third with 5 golds, 6 silvers, and 5 bronzes.

Doan Thu Hang (number 338, Quang Ninh) finished second with a time of 10 minutes 54.21 seconds.

Nguyen Khanh Ly (number 442, Da Nang) trailed in fifth place before surging in the final two laps to claim the bronze medal with a time of 11 minutes 8 seconds.

An upset occurred in the women's 200m final when Ha Thi Thu (number 581, TP HCM) defeated strong competitors to win gold in 23.43 seconds. Having also won the 100m, she became Vietnam's new sprint queen.

In this event, Le Thi Cam Tu (An Giang) finished second with 23.49 seconds, and Tran Thi Nhi Yen (370, Tay Ninh) third with 23.56 seconds.
