Premier league legends shine in vietnam

Michael Owen, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, and other premier league legends enjoyed matches against Vietnamese all-stars and fan interactions in Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, and Hanoi.

Two days later, at Hoa Xuan Stadium in Da Nang, the Vietnamese all-stars, wearing white, hosted the premier league legends. Thousands of spectators cheered enthusiastically every time Michael Owen, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, Teddy Sheringham, Wes Brown, or Dwight Yorke had the ball. The Vietnamese team, a mix of current and former stars, played energetically, including notable players like Huynh Duc, Van Quyet, Le Phuoc Tu, Phan Nhu Thuat, Le Cong Vinh, Nguyen Minh Phuong, Nguyen Duc Thang, Nguyen Hai Long, and Pham Tuan Hai. Even after the conclusion of the 2025 Vietnam-UK football festival, fans continue to share photos and comments on social media, reminiscing about the memorable moments with the former premier league stars during their recent visit to Vietnam.

Upon arriving in Ho Chi Minh City on 25/6, Dion Dublin, Wes Brown, and Teddy Sheringham (pictured right, from left to right) went to Tam Anh General Hospital for check-ups before heading to Da Nang for a friendly match against Vietnamese all-stars. They were surprised to see hundreds of fans waiting for them for hours, despite the heavy rain.

In the 7th minute, after receiving a pass, 2001 Ballon d'Or winner Michael Owen accelerated and skillfully chipped the ball over goalkeeper Van Sy, opening the scoring. In the 27th minute, he scored again from the penalty spot, giving the premier league legends a 2-0 lead. The visitors added two more goals, while Huynh Duc and Viet Thang scored for Vietnam, making the final score 4-2. Photo: Nguyen Dong

One of the most memorable moments for Dublin and the other players was visiting and giving gifts to young patients at Tam Anh Hospital. Some family members expressed surprise at meeting the stars from Manchester United's golden era of the 1990s.

At the Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Center, Sheringham was pleased to experience the R-force anti-gravity system, a device that aids injury recovery and allows athletes to train earlier. Brown was impressed with the hospital's AI applications, jokingly suggesting, "If you let English clubs borrow this, they'd be very happy".

After the friendly match in Da Nang, the former players traveled to Hanoi. On the afternoon of 29/6, Owen, Yorke, Sheringham, Brown, and Dublin arrived at Tam Anh General Hospital in Hanoi for check-ups before their next match. Nearly 10,000 people attended the match, in a stadium with a capacity of 20,000. After the game, the Manchester United legends signed autographs on balls and jerseys for fans.

Fan Hai Thanh (Quang Tri) posted on Facebook that he bought tickets early and wouldn't forget seeing his idols at Hoa Xuan Stadium: "Successfully met my idols. Never thought I'd see 'ginger prince' Paul Scholes, Giggs, and Teddy".

Sheringham received guidance from doctors on using equipment to strengthen quadriceps muscles, while Owen enjoyed using the Tecar Winback Back 4 multi-frequency therapy machine, which stimulates blood and lymphatic circulation, accelerating muscle and tissue regeneration.

The players concluded the event with a fan meet-and-greet in the hospital's main hall.

The match between the Vietnamese all-stars and the premier league legends at Hang Day Stadium at 7 PM on 30/6 was the highlight of the 2025 Vietnam-UK football festival. The visiting team, wearing black and white, featured familiar faces like Yorke, Sheringham, Brown, Dublin, and Owen.

Vietnam All Stars included Le Huynh Duc, Nguyen Van Sy, Nguyen Manh Dung, Pham Van Quyen, Duong Hong Son, Do Duy Manh, and Nguyen Van Quyet.

Heavy rain in Hanoi late in the afternoon made it difficult for both teams. In the 6th minute, a defensive error by Vietnam All Stars allowed Nata Souza (number 22) to break through and score. Marc Fuller then added another goal for the visitors.

Both teams entertained the crowd with skillful plays and impressive goals. In the 21st minute, from Huynh Duc's through ball, Van Quyet beat the offside trap, danced past the goalkeeper, and scored, reducing the deficit to 1-2. In the 28th minute, Van Quyet won a penalty after being fouled by Fuller (number 8), leading to the equalizer, making it 2-2.

The Vietnamese players worked hard to defend against Owen. Thanks to the care and physical therapy at Tam Anh General Hospital, Owen maintained his stamina throughout the match, despite the weather.

With their superior fitness, the Vietnamese all-stars scored a third goal in the 64th minute after sustained pressure, securing a 3-2 victory.

Demonstrating its comprehensive medical care capabilities, Tam Anh General Hospital deployed a mobile medical team with various specialties on the sidelines. The hospital also prepared internationally standardized ambulances, equipped like mini mobile emergency rooms. All data was synchronized with the coordination center at Tam Anh General Hospital in Hanoi, where medical staff were on duty 24/7, ready for consultations and support.
