Rashford expresses desire to play alongside Yamal

Marcus Rashford has publicly expressed his wish to play with teenage star Lamine Yamal at Barcelona, amidst uncertainty surrounding his future at Manchester United.

On 21/6, Spanish social media star Javi Ruiz posted a video of his conversation with Rashford in Marbella.

When asked if he would like to play alongside Yamal, the English forward replied, "Of course I would. Who wouldn't want to play with the best players? Hopefully. We'll see".

Rashford went on to praise Yamal, "He's playing at the highest level. I don't think we've ever seen that before. To have that mentality is a skill. It's unbelievable for him to play like that, and he'll only get better".

Having come through the academy, Rashford has played for Manchester United's first team since 2016, scoring 138 goals in 426 appearances. However, due to disagreements with manager Ruben Amorim, the 27-year-old moved to Aston Villa on loan in January. At Villa Park, Rashford rediscovered his form, scoring 4 goals and providing 6 assists in 17 games.

Despite his improved performance, Rashford's future remains uncertain. Aston Villa are hesitant to pay his full salary of over 400,000 USD per week and activate the 50 million USD buyout clause. A return to Manchester United also seems unlikely while Amorim is still in charge.

Rashford reportedly prefers a move to Spain and has even offered himself to Barcelona. "Spain is beautiful, and it's not too far from home," Rashford told the YouTuber. "If I was training here for a long period, it would be great because my family could come and visit for a few days – it's only a three-hour flight. The weather is very good as well".

Rashford could be a backup option for Raphinha on the left wing, and Robert Lewandowski in the center forward position. The 27-year-old revealed he prefers playing as a central striker to playing on the left wing. "As I've gotten older, the number 9 position has become more comfortable, more natural," he explained. "Playing with my back to goal is becoming easier for me. I'm always in front of goal and can create danger".

Last month, Barcelona's Sporting Director, Deco, publicly stated his admiration for Rashford, along with Liverpool winger Luis Diaz. Deco subsequently met with Rashford's agent and brother, Dwaine Maynard, at a hotel in the city to discuss terms for a potential transfer. Manchester United are reportedly seeking 50 million USD for the player.

The issue for Rashford is that Barcelona are accelerating their pursuit of Bilbao star Nico Williams. The Camp Nou side have reportedly reached a personal agreement with the Euro 2024 champion. Williams also rejected Bayern Munich to move to Barcelona, and manager Hansi Flick wants to finalize the signing of one of Europe's most talented wingers soon.
