Atletico surprised Bernabeu fans in the first half. The visitors started slowly, with fewer attacks, but capitalized on their chances more effectively. In the 33rd minute, following a backheel pass from Giuliano Simeone, Ademola Lookman struck from close range to open the scoring.

After the break, Atletico seemed to lose their way. The third-placed La Liga team made repeated errors, conceding two goals to Real and completely changing the game's dynamic. In the 52nd minute, after David Hancko fouled Brahim Diaz in the penalty area, Vinicius converted the penalty to equalize one-one. Three minutes later, Jose Gimenez lost possession in the box, allowing Valverde to strike past goalkeeper Juan Musso, making it two-one.

The derby intensified with Atletico's attacking efforts from midway through the second half. In the 66th minute, right-back Nahuel Molina scored from 25 meters to equalize two-two for the visitors.

However, Real proved superior in the decisive moments. In the 72nd minute, after cutting in from the right wing into the penalty area, Vinicius curled a shot into the net, sealing a three-two victory.

Real finished the match with ten players. Valverde received a direct red card in the 77th minute for a foul on Alex Baena. Despite playing with an extra man for the final 20 minutes, Atletico failed to capitalize on their advantage. Julian Alvarez missed a chance to equalize three-three, hitting the post with a curled shot in the 81st minute.

Real secured their fifth consecutive victory in March. Previously, they defeated Celta Vigo two-one and Elche four-one in La Liga, and won against Man City three-zero and two-one in the round of 1/8 of the Champions League.
