ACS was formed in 1983 when a group of engineers acquired Construcciones Padros SA, a construction company facing financial difficulties. Through mergers and acquisitions, the group gradually expanded. Perez became vice president in 1993 and president in 1997.
Perez is best known for his presidency of Real Madrid. Over two periods (2000-2006 and 2009-present), he has led the club to seven Champions League titles, making him the most successful president in the Bernabeu's history. In 1/2025, Perez was re-elected for a term lasting until 2029.
Despite his considerable wealth, the 78-year-old businessman doesn't need to invest in Real Madrid. The 15-time European champions are a money-making machine, generating over USD one billion in revenue annually. Perez's greatest contributions to Real Madrid are his vision, leadership, and application of business acumen to football. In the past four years, Real Madrid has won two Champions Leagues and two La Liga titles without significant spending in the transfer market.
Ranked just below Perez on the list of Spain's richest individuals is Juan Abello, a diversified investor with a net worth of USD 3.3 billion. Juan Roig, owner of the Mercadona supermarket chain, and his wife, Hortensia Herrero, are ranked fourth and eighth with USD 6.3 billion and USD 3.6 billion respectively. Rafael Del Pino and Maria Del Pino, siblings who inherited the transport infrastructure group Ferrovial, are ranked third and seventh with USD 6.9 billion and USD 3.6 billion respectively.
Miquel Fluxa Rossello, a hotel magnate, is ranked sixth with USD 3.9 billion. Tomas Olivo Lopez, a major player in the shopping center sector, is ranked fifth with USD 4.8 billion.
The top two spots belong to Amancio Ortega and his daughter Sandra Ortega, the largest shareholders in the Inditex clothing empire, with USD 120 billion and USD 10.8 billion respectively. Amancio is the 12th richest person in the world.
