Ronaldo to have 16-strong security detail at Al Nassr training camp

Cristiano Ronaldo will be accompanied by a 16-person security detail when he joins Al Nassr for their pre-season training in Austria.

Al Nassr has arrived in Austria and received a warm welcome from fans at their hotel. The club will begin their new season against Al Ittihad in the Saudi Super Cup semi-final on 19/8.

Ronaldo has not yet arrived in Austria but will rejoin the team for training soon.

Al Nassr's management has reportedly tightened security to ensure maximum focus during the pre-season period. Ronaldo's presence makes Al Nassr's every move a focal point, requiring the club to implement strict control measures to avoid disruptions and maintain their training schedule.

According to Austrian media, Ronaldo will be protected by 16 bodyguards to prevent harassment from fans. Al Nassr's training sessions will also be closed to fans and the media.

Al Nassr has been particularly concerned about security since signing Ronaldo in early 2023. The Portuguese forward recently extended his contract until 2027, which includes a provision for a dedicated 16-person full-time staff. This includes four security personnel tasked with protecting Ronaldo and his family in Saudi Arabia.

In 4/2025, Ronaldo and his partner Georgina Rodriguez replaced their entire security team and hired a new head of security, Claudio Miguel Vaz, a Portuguese security expert. This decision came after online threats against Ronaldo's family prompted a police investigation.

In addition to appointing a new head of security, Ronaldo's family relocated to a luxury apartment in Riyadh equipped with a state-of-the-art surveillance system and even a protective bunker.

Ronaldo joined Al Nassr in 1/2023 on a free transfer, initially signing a contract until 6/2025. In two and a half years in Riyadh, the 40-year-old has scored 99 goals and provided 19 assists in 111 appearances across all competitions. He has scored 938 career goals and needs 62 more to reach his desired milestone of 1,000.

Out of the 16 tournaments he has participated in with Al Nassr, Ronaldo has won only one collective title: the Arab Club Champions Cup in 8/2023.
