The Egyptian star announced the news via a social media video on the evening of 24/3. In an emotional message, Salah said: "Unfortunately, this day has come. This is the first part of my farewell. I will leave Liverpool at the end of the season."
"I never imagined the club, the city, and its people would become such a deep part of my life," he added. "Liverpool is not just a football club; it is passion, history, and spirit."

Liverpool later confirmed that both parties had reached an agreement to terminate the contract early, despite Salah's current deal running until summer 2027. This decision was made to ensure transparency with fans and to give the club time to prepare for the transition period.
Joining Liverpool from AS Roma in summer 2017, Salah quickly rose to become a world-class attacking player. After 435 matches, he scored 255 goals, ranking third on the club's all-time scoring list, behind only Ian Rush (346) and Roger Hunt (285). The Egyptian forward won eight major titles with Liverpool, notably two Premier League titles in 2020 and 2025, and one Champions League in 2019. He won the Premier League Golden Boot four times and was voted Player of the Season last term.
Salah's impact was particularly evident in the 2024-2025 season, when he scored 29 goals and provided 18 assists, playing a significant role in Liverpool's Premier League triumph in manager Arne Slot's first season. However, his form declined this season, with 5 goals and 6 assists in 22 domestic league matches.
Beyond professional concerns, Salah's future had been a major question mark since late last year. After a 3-3 draw with Leeds in December, when he was not used for the third consecutive time, the forward publicly expressed his frustration and disagreement with manager Slot. He then stated he felt scapegoated and revealed he no longer had a relationship with the Dutch tactician. Salah was also excluded from the squad for the Champions League match against Inter.
However, upon returning from the Africa Cup of Nations, Salah was reintegrated into the team and started 13 matches since late January, somewhat easing internal tensions. Nevertheless, the decision to part ways was made before the season concluded. Liverpool stated that Salah would continue to focus fully on helping the team achieve the best possible results for the rest of the season, before the club organizes tribute activities at the end of the year.
In his farewell video, Salah repeatedly mentioned the fans: "I don't have enough words to express your support. You have been with me during the best times of my career and also the most difficult. I will never forget that." Salah will turn 34 in June. His future beyond that remains uncertain, but the forward affirmed that Liverpool will always be home, and he will "never walk alone."
