Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) co-president and CEO John Thorrington revealed that Son's number 7 jersey is the world's best-selling sports jersey. This achievement was recorded in less than a week after he signed with the team. "Since joining LAFC, he's sold more jerseys than any other athlete in the world," Thorrington said.
Son joined LAFC from Tottenham for 26 million USD, breaking the MLS transfer record. Immediately after his debut, his jersey sold out on the team's website in all sizes except 3XL. The selling price of each Son jersey is listed at 194.99 USD.

This news surprised even sports commentators. During a conversation with talkSPORT, host Andy Goldstein asked repeatedly to confirm whether Son's jersey was indeed outselling Lionel Messi's. The Inter Miami superstar has been a global jersey sales icon for years. Thorrington confirmed it was true, adding that Son had also surpassed other top names in other sports, such as Cristiano Ronaldo, LeBron James, and Stephen Curry.
Son's impact extends beyond jersey sales to the ticket market. According to the Korea Times, LAFC ticket prices have surged since his arrival. Tickets for the LAFC versus San Diego FC match on 1/9 increased from around 300 USD to 1,500 USD.
However, Thorrington believes Son's success at LAFC isn't solely measured by commercial impact. "The wisdom of this deal won't be judged by how many jerseys we sell, but by titles and success on the field," he said. "That's what truly excites us. Son can bring both economic benefits and elevate the team's overall performance."
The 32-year-old Son holds the record for winning the "Asian Player of the Year" award 7 times. He was targeted by major clubs like Real Madrid and Man City, but he declined due to his loyalty to Tottenham. Son concluded his 10-year stint at Tottenham with a Europa League title before joining LAFC.
