South Korean female billiard players challenge Vietnamese male counterparts

Players Han Soye and Kim Hyerim competed against several Vietnamese male players at the HBSF Billiards Tournament.

Facing the home male players, Han made a strong impression by defeating Le Duc Thanh 7-3 in her opening match. The South Korean player then went on to eliminate Hua Vien 7-6 to advance to the round of 16.

Meanwhile, Kim faced the skilled player Quach Vi Nam in the main round. She quickly fell behind 5-2 but fought back to win three consecutive games, tying the score at 5-5. However, the Vietnamese player capitalized on better opportunities to win two more games and secure a 7-5 victory.

At the HBSF Tour Billiards Tournament taking place in Ho Chi Minh City, two South Korean female players, Han So-ye and Kim Hye-rim, registered to compete in the men's 9-ball pool, facing off against top Vietnamese players in the official round.

Han explained that they chose to compete against male players to test their skills. "I don't underestimate the Vietnamese female players, but I think competing against them would be easier for us," she told VnExpress.

After her initial defeat, the 21-year-old female player dominated Tran Duc Tho with a 7-3 victory. However, in the decisive match for a spot in the knockout stage, Kim lost 7-1 to Nguyen Van Tuan.

Vietnamese billiards hot girl Phung Phuong Uyen competed in the women's 9-ball pool. The 19-year-old from Da Lat (formerly Lam Dong) is relatively new to billiards but has already demonstrated impressive skills, progressing far in this tournament.

However, Han couldn't continue her surprising run, losing 2-9 to Chau Chiem Minh in the round of 16.

Despite not reaching the quarterfinals, Han expressed satisfaction and enjoyment in competing against the Vietnamese male players. She also mentioned that the weather in Ho Chi Minh City during those days was excessively hot, significantly affecting the competition.

Phuong Uyen has moved to Ho Chi Minh City to study and pursue a professional billiards career. "I've competed in some smaller tournaments, but this is my first time participating in a major professional one, so I'm very happy. My main goal is to gain experience by competing with more senior players," she said.

Bui Pham Truc Quyen, an 18-year-old player from Gia Lai, is a taekwondo athlete with several national achievements. She also has a passion for pool and 3-cushion billiards.

Tran Ngoc My, in addition to her passion for billiards, is also a gym pilates instructor.

Female player Tu Trinh showcased smooth and decisive shots in the women's 9-ball pool. She is also admired for her attractive appearance and bright smile.

The HBSF Tour Cup MIN Table 2025 billiards tournament took place from 31/7 to 5/8 at the Sports Services Center (215C Ly Thuong Kiet, Phu Tho Ward, Ho Chi Minh City).

Ngoc Mai focused on her shots in the women's 9-ball pool.

The tournament featured four categories: men's 3-cushion carom, women's 3-cushion carom, men's 9-ball pool, and women's 9-ball pool, attracting nearly 500 players, including not only top Vietnamese players but also international competitors.

Vu Thi Kim Ngan competed in the women's 9-ball pool.

This prestigious billiards tournament, organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Billiards & Snooker Federation (HBSF), has established its place in the Vietnamese billiards community over the years and is often referred to as the "World Cup of Vietnamese billiards".

The tournament concluded today with the quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals in the pool and 3-cushion categories.
