At the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia, Thailand secured silver in men's football and bronze in the women's competition. Futsal was not included in that edition of the games.
As host of the 33rd SEA Games, Thailand has reinstated futsal alongside men's and women's football. At the SEA Games 33 Athlete, Official, and Selection Committee meeting on 5/8, the host nation announced its ambition to win gold in all four football disciplines.
The Thai men's futsal team is dominant and likely to achieve this goal, but their women's team faces stiff competition from Vietnam. Vietnam defeated Thailand 2-1 in the final of the 2024 Southeast Asian Women's Futsal Championship, claiming the title on Thai soil. However, Thailand secured the runner-up spot and a World Cup berth at the 2025 Asian Championships.

In men's football, Thailand has won 16 SEA Games gold medals, most recently in 2017. In the three subsequent games, Vietnam (2019, 2021) and Indonesia (2023) emerged victorious.
The women's SEA Games football tournament has been held 13 times, with Vietnam winning eight gold medals and Thailand five. Thailand's last gold medal came at the 2013 SEA Games. They lost to Vietnam in the finals of both the 2019 and 2021 games.
The SEA Games (South East Asian Games) is the largest sporting event in Southeast Asia, bringing together member nations to compete in various sports. The biennial event rotates among different host countries.
This year, the games will be held in three locations in Thailand: Bangkok, Chonburi, and Songkhla, from 9/12 to 20/12/2025. Athletes will compete in 50 sports, vying for 574 medals.
Thailand is sending a strong contingent of 2,134 athletes, participating in every sport. Besides aiming for a clean sweep in football, the host nation has set a target of 234 gold medals out of the total 574 (40%), aiming for first place overall.
