Usyk's finishing blow landed after Dubois dropped his guard prematurely. The powerful left hook—nicknamed "Ivan" by Usyk—not only sent Dubois to the canvas but also ejected his mouthguard, highlighting the disparity between the two fighters.
Many experts believe Dubois made a critical error by losing focus at a crucial moment. Renowned boxing promoter Frank Warren called it "an unforgivable lapse" in a high-stakes title fight.
The video of Usyk's punch dislodging Dubois' mouthguard is circulating on social media.

A mouthguard is a protective device made of rubber or pliable plastic that boxers wear (usually on their upper jaw) during competition or training.
Its primary purpose is to protect the teeth and mouth from direct injury. When a boxer takes a hard punch, the mouthguard helps reduce the impact on the teeth, gums, jaw, and even facial bones. It also helps limit the risk of concussion by absorbing and dispersing the force of the blow. Severe cases without a mouthguard can lead to jaw fractures, tongue lacerations, or broken teeth.
Wearing a mouthguard is mandatory in professional matches. If a fighter's mouthguard falls out during a bout, the referee will usually pause the action to replace it, unless a knockout occurs, as in the Usyk-Dubois fight.

Following his third career defeat, Dubois stated he gave his all and acknowledged Usyk's superior strength. The British fighter vowed to return stronger and expressed gratitude to his fans.
Meanwhile, Warren advised Dubois to take about 6 months off to recover and learn from the loss before returning in early 2026. "Many fighters have been beaten and come back stronger. That’s what Dubois has to do," Warren said. "Dubois can inflict damage; he just needs to develop other aspects of his game. He has to come back and make his mark."
Usyk solidified his position as the top heavyweight boxer. The Ukrainian fighter plans to spend 2-3 months with his family before considering his future, which might include bouts against Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua, Dereck Chisora, or Joseph Parker.
