This penalty drops Vietnam from second place to the bottom of Pool A. The team will no longer face Turkey in the round of 16 as planned, but will instead compete against Egypt in the classification round for 17th to 24th place.
According to the Thai newspaper Thairath, a team in Pool A filed a complaint with the FIVB regarding the Vietnamese player. The FIVB formed a sub-committee to investigate the matter according to regulations.
The FIVB Disciplinary Sub-Committee will submit the case to the FIVB Disciplinary Panel to assess further potential sanctions against the player and the VFV after the tournament. The VFV and the player have the right to appeal in writing.
"The FIVB will not comment further on this matter while the investigation is ongoing," the statement said.
