Greenland, a self-governing island part of Denmark, launched its 2025 national soccer championship on 29/7. Eight teams are divided into two groups, with the top two from each group advancing to the semi-finals.
Group stage matches will take place from 29 to 31/7. The qualifying teams will have a break on 1/8 before the semi-finals and final on the following two days. According to Marca, the Greenland championship is the shortest national league in the world.

The tournament consists of amateur players who cover their own travel expenses to the host city, this year Nuuk, at a cost of approximately 2,300 USD. In 2024, when the tournament was held in Qeqertarsuaq, the cost was higher due to additional ferry travel.
This year, two teams withdrew due to financial constraints, including N-48, the second most successful team with 12 championship titles. FC Nuuk leads with 15 championships, including wins in 2023 and 2024.
While lasting only a week, the Greenland championship generates immense enthusiasm among fans. "Soccer here is like a religion," said one young fan. "This week, the Nuuk community unites in the stadium, everyone cheering for their favorite team, but above all, united by soccer."
Greenland is the world's largest island. Geographically and ethnically, it's linked to North America and Canada. Politically and historically, however, Greenland is part of Denmark and closely tied to Europe. Ice covers about 80% of Greenland's surface. Most of the nearly 60,000 residents live in the southwestern fjords.
The Football Association of Greenland is not a member of FIFA or any continental confederation. In 2024, their application to join CONCACAF was declined. The Greenland national team often plays international matches against Iceland and the Faroe Islands. The Faroe Islands are also part of Denmark but are a member of both FIFA and UEFA.
