The large number of gasoline motorcycle users, limited public transport coverage, lack of parking spaces, and insufficient charging stations pose challenges as Hanoi moves to eliminate gasoline-powered vehicles.

Several major cities in China and Indonesia are restricting or banning the use of gasoline-powered motorcycles in central areas, following specific roadmaps.

Besides supporting residents in switching to electric vehicles, Hanoi will standardize charging stations, expand public transport, and establish an air pollution forecast before banning gasoline motorcycles from 2026.
