The US is urging Europe to impose heavy tariffs on China and India to pressure Russia over the Ukraine conflict, Reuters reports.

Indian finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman confirmed India's continued purchase of Russian oil due to economic benefits, despite a 50% import tariff imposed by the US.

With half of the 50% US tariffs on Indian goods stemming from India's purchase of Russian oil, halting this supply presents a complex challenge for New Delhi.

Starting at 12:01 AM on 27/8, US time, tariffs on goods imported from India will increase to 50%, up from the previous 25%.

At least 15 shipments of Russian oil have been ordered by Chinese refineries for delivery in October and November, according to Reuters.
