British tourist unexpectedly goes viral after filming Nepal protests

British tourist Harry unintentionally became an internet sensation after capturing chaotic protest footage in Kathmandu on his first day in Nepal.

Harry, a British YouTuber who runs the channel "We Hate The Cold", unexpectedly found himself in the spotlight after filming chaotic scenes in Kathmandu during protests on 8/9. His video garnered over 14 million views in just two days, showing damaged vehicles, smoke billowing from buildings, and the bewildered tourist trying to make sense of the unfolding events.

Harry is on a motorcycle journey from Thailand to the UK, with Nepal being the 7th country on his itinerary. He was in disbelief at the scenes unfolding before him.

The video shot in Nepal propelled Harry to global internet fame, with many dubbing him an "accidental war reporter." On his second day in Kathmandu, while visiting a local cafe, he was surprised to find everyone recognized him and wanted to take photos. It was then he realized the video had gone viral.

Harry stated he didn't intend to capture politically sensitive content for views. He routinely films his travel experiences at each destination. "I just happened to be there with my camera," Harry said, adding that the curfew in Nepal has left him stranded in the midst of the crisis.

He plans to continue his motorcycle journey from Thailand back to the UK after leaving Nepal. However, this depends on the curfew being lifted and his motorcycle being transported, which is expected to take several more days.

Five months ago, Harry faced a similar predicament when Pakistan closed its borders. After multiple failed attempts to cross, he opted to ship his motorcycle.

In Kathmandu, Harry had to find a hotel without internet access or a SIM card, navigating through chaotic crowds. Fortunately, locals helped him, providing a hotspot and guiding him through the protest areas.

"I'm safe in my hotel and waiting to leave Kathmandu," Harry said.
