Golden harvest festival at Ban May

Celebrating a bountiful harvest, Ban May at Sun World Fansipan Legend hosts a vibrant cultural festival from 19/8 to 30/8.

Sa Pa welcomes visitors this August with the golden harvest festival at Ban May, Sun World Fansipan Legend. The festival attracts thousands of visitors to experience the local culture and participate in Sa Pa's traditional harvest celebrations.

The festival showcases the traditional rituals and daily life of 7 ethnic groups: H’Mong Sa Pa, H’Mong Dien Bien, Xa Pho, Tay, Giay, Dao Do, Thai, and Ha Nhi. It's also a time for them to celebrate a year of favorable weather and a bountiful harvest. In the spirit of commemorating the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day on 2/9, red flags are arranged in the shape of terraced rice fields at the entrance to Ban May.

The entire village is decorated with symbols of a plentiful harvest, such as overflowing rice baskets and stacks of harvested rice. "The atmosphere here feels prosperous and lively, like a welcome to the ripe rice season," remarked Ha Minh, a visitor from Hanoi.

The Tay people's new rice ceremony in Sa Pa is also reenacted. This ceremony expresses gratitude to the deities and ancestors. Fragrant sticky rice from the first harvest is used to make new rice offerings to heaven, earth, and their ancestors. After the ceremony, bowls of the sticky white rice are given to visitors as a blessing.

While the ceremony is solemn, the festival is filled with cheerful sounds. Visitors can participate in activities like rice cooking and com pounding (a type of young rice flake). With the guidance of local artisans, each activity becomes a vivid and authentic Sa Pa experience.

Visitors can also enjoy traditional music, such as the H’Mong’s khen (panpipes), Tay then singing (ceremonial songs), Thai xoe dancing (circle dance), and the resounding gongs and drums. These performances reflect daily life and aspirations for a prosperous future.

From Ban May, visitors can take the three-wire cable car up to Fansipan, the roof of Indochina. This is the best time of year to admire the golden Muong Hoa valley with its terraced rice fields.

This year's National Day celebration on 2/9 at Sun World Fansipan Legend carries the theme "Beloved Vietnam 2/9 - Our radiant homeland with flags and flowers," featuring a series of special artistic activities.

At the summit of Fansipan, the flag-raising ceremony is a must-see experience. Watching the red flag with a gold star flutter on the flagpole and singing the Vietnamese national anthem amidst nature is a moment of national pride. For this occasion, tens of thousands of red flags with gold stars decorate the resort, creating a photogenic display of patriotism.

From 19/8 to 20/9, the resort offers a special promotion for Vietnamese visitors. With the purchase of a cable car ticket after 1 PM, guests receive a complimentary dinner buffet at either Van Sam or Hoa Hong restaurant between 4 PM and 6:30 PM.
