The famed "death cliff" (a popular photo spot) in Dong Van, Ha Giang, is temporarily closed to visitors from 9/8 to 9/16 for renovations, Pham Duc Nam, chairman of the Dong Van Commune People's Committee, announced on the afternoon of 9/10. The closure affects the entire concrete road leading from the Youth Volunteer Monument to the cliff area and surrounding paths. The project includes road repairs and the construction of safety railings.
The cliff attracts many visitors but poses safety risks. Mr. Nam noted previous accidents and falls reported by the Meo Vac district authorities.

After the renovations, visitors taking photos at the cliff will be required to wear safety harnesses and will no longer be permitted to sit freely. The commune People's Committee will also station personnel at the site to ensure visitor safety, without charging an entrance fee.
Visitors are advised to avoid the construction area during the closure. The commune will announce the reopening date upon completion of the project.
Projecting out from the mountainside, the "death cliff" offers breathtaking views, making it a sought-after spot for dramatic photos. Motorcycles can access the area's vicinity, followed by a 30-40 meter climb on a challenging path with sharp rocks and slippery surfaces. Locals say the "death cliff" was formed by falling rocks due to weather conditions.
In 2021, a visitor from Son La suffered injuries in an accident at the site. Despite two warning signs and numerous advisories from local authorities, visitors continue to frequent the cliff for photos.
