Hanoi achieves record tourism revenue and visitor numbers during National Day holiday

During the four-day National Day holiday, Hanoi welcomed nearly 2.1 million visitors, three times higher than the same period last year and exceeding the 1.95 million visitors Ho Chi Minh City welcomed during the Reunification Day holiday.

Hanoi's Department of Tourism reported on 2/9 that the city welcomed nearly 2.1 million visitors during the four-day National Day holiday, a threefold increase compared to the same period in 2024. Over 80,000 international visitors contributed to this figure, a 35% year-on-year increase. Total tourism revenue reached nearly 4.5 trillion VND, marking an 80% surge compared to the same period in 2024.

The four-day National Day holiday fueled a surge in travel demand. 3-5 star hotels experienced high occupancy rates, with many, including Novotel Thai Ha, Novotel Suites, Lacasa Hanoi, Bao Son, and Grand Mercure, reaching full capacity on 1/9. The average occupancy rate for hotels and serviced apartments was estimated at 83%, a substantial 23 percentage point increase compared to the same period last year. The Department of Tourism confirmed that all tourism service providers met safety, security, and food hygiene standards.

Alongside the parade commemorating the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day (A80), Hanoi hosted various events for tourists. Notable attractions included the "Sac Do Ba Dinh" program and a series of activities promoting Hanoi's tourism, culture, and history. The "80 Years of Independence - Freedom - Happiness" exhibition at the National Exhibition Center in Dong Anh attracted over 1 million visitors in three days.

Other popular destinations also drew large crowds: Hanoi Zoo (33,000 visitors), the Temple of Literature (18,000 visitors), Ao Vua Tourist Area (over 2,000 visitors), and Ba Vi National Park (nearly 3,200 visitors). Hoa Lo Prison welcomed over 26,000 visitors, Co Loa Citadel 5,670, and the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long approximately 33,000.

City tours and historical tours experienced a surge in popularity, with many travel companies fully booked 1-2 months in advance. According to travel agencies, many tourists opted to travel early (from 27-28/8) to return in time for the parade on 2/9. Domestic tours accounted for 60% of total bookings at many agencies during this period.

Tourism experts and travel agency CEOs considered Hanoi's leading position in visitor numbers and revenue during the National Day holiday predictable. As the host city for the 80th-anniversary celebrations of the August Revolution and National Day (A80), Hanoi naturally attracted visitors nationwide, similar to Ho Chi Minh City during the Reunification Day holiday.
