Hanoi's national day fireworks spectacular: prime viewing spots

Five high-altitude firework displays will illuminate Hanoi's skyline on September 2nd, offering residents and visitors stunning views from public spaces, rooftop cafes and bars, and high-rise buildings.

Hanoi will host high-altitude firework displays at five locations: Hoan Kiem Lake, West Lake, My Dinh National Stadium, Thong Nhat Park, and Van Quan Lake. Each display will feature approximately 600 high-altitude fireworks and 90 low-altitude firework platforms, lasting 15 minutes from 9 pm to 9:15 pm on 2/9.

Viewing options range from public parks to elevated venues. Here are some of the best spots to catch the show.

Public spaces

Thong Nhat Park (Hai Ba Trung ward), Lac Long Quan Flower Garden (Tay Ho ward), the F1 racetrack (Tu Liem ward), Phu Do Lake (near My Dinh National Stadium), and Van Quan Lake (Ha Dong ward) offer ample public viewing space. Public transport or parking further away is recommended to avoid traffic congestion.

Inside Thong Nhat Park offers an ideal, accessible, and free viewing spot, easily reached from Tran Nhan Tong or Nguyen Dinh Chieu streets.

Around My Dinh, prime locations include the central square in front of the stadium, nearby streets, and surrounding residential buildings. Around West Lake, Lac Long Quan Street and lakeside roads such as Nguyen Dinh Thi, Yen Hoa, Yen Phu, Quang An, Dang Thai Mai, and Ve Ho offer clear views.

Around Hoan Kiem Lake, where streets are narrow and often obstructed by trees, elevated positions are preferable. While the former "Shark Fin" building is no longer available, the current square in its place offers a good ground-level vantage point.

Rooftop bars at high-rise hotels

Many 4- and 5-star hotels offer rooftop bars with spectacular views, often featuring special dining and music programs synchronized with the fireworks.

Summit Bar at the Pan Pacific Hotel, located at the beginning of Thanh Nien Street, provides panoramic views, particularly of the West Lake fireworks and some angles of Hoan Kiem Lake. Their National Day program runs from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm on 2/9, with drink combos starting from 580,000 VND per person.

Sky Bar at the Sheraton Hanoi West, adjacent to My Dinh National Stadium, offers special programs on 1/9 and 2/9. Guests can enjoy elevated firework views, along with music performances from the stadium and square. The bar is open until 1 am, with tickets from 900,000 VND per person, including a drink, snacks, and fruit.

Hedonist Bar on the 23rd floor of the L7 West Lake Hanoi by Lotte offers indoor and outdoor seating overlooking West Lake, perfect for viewing the fireworks and light shows. The program runs from 7 pm to midnight, with entry from 350,000 VND per person, including a National Day-themed cocktail and live music.

Bellevue Rooftop at the Silk Path Boutique Hanoi on Hang Khay Street offers 9th-floor views directly over Hoan Kiem Lake. Their 2/9 dinner menu, available from 6 pm to 10 pm, includes a 4-course Asian-European meal, a glass of wine, and a welcome drink, priced from 1.35 million VND per person.

Cafes

Most cafes don't sell tickets for firework viewing but often offer special drink menus with prices 1.5 to 2 times higher than usual.

The Sipping Bar Waterfront, located at the pedal boat dock inside Thong Nhat Park, offers indoor and outdoor seating. It's best accessed from Dai Co Viet Street. During firework displays, they usually offer free parking. Patrons can purchase drinks and then find a suitable viewing spot.

Along Nguyen Dinh Chieu Street, cafes like Joah, An Kinh Bac, Hanoian, Industry, Simee, 80 plus, and Renee offer park views, though some sightlines may be obstructed by trees.

Cafes further from Thong Nhat Park with higher floors, such as Kitsune Coffee (11th floor, lane 378 Le Duan), Aries Rooftop Coffee (9th floor, 8 O Cho Dua), and Helios Skyview (8th floor, 150 Ton Duc Thang), also offer potential viewing spots. Reservations are recommended for these locations.

Cafes along Nguyen Dinh Thi Street (Tay Ho ward), including Bonjour Cafe, Thang 10 - October Coffee & Studio, Tony's Coffee, Flowers & More, A Beo Cafe, Sila Coffee House, An Cafe, and KOPee Coffee, are also taking reservations. Expect street-level crowding and book in advance for higher-floor seating.

Laika cafes on streets like Trich Sai and Van Quan, and Highlands Coffee locations at West Lake Water Park, Trich Sai, Le Thai To, and Dinh Tien Hoang, offer convenient viewing spots.

Around Van Quan Lake, lakeside cafes like Fordeer Coffee, Ca phe Cuc Cu, Xanh Cafe, An Hoi An, Gen Coffee, and Nha Go Coffee provide good vantage points.

Additionally, the high-altitude fireworks at the five locations can be easily viewed from nearby residential and office buildings.
