Hanoi tourism booms during National Day holiday, while other provinces suffer losses due to storms

Due to the impact of storms and the draw of the National Day parade in Hanoi, many provinces saw fewer visitors this year compared to last.

Hanoi's Department of Tourism reported that the city welcomed nearly 2.1 million visitors during the 4-day holiday, tripling the number from the same period in 2024. Total tourism revenue reached an estimated 4,500 billion VND, double that of last year's National Day holiday. The average hotel occupancy rate in the city was 83%.

Ho Chi Minh City came in second with revenue exceeding 4,100 billion VND, also doubling the figure from the same period last year. The city welcomed nearly 1.5 million visitors, a 1.5-fold increase compared to 980,000 visitors in 2024.

Da Nang also saw significant gains during the holiday. Total visitor numbers reached over 620,000, a 24% increase compared to the same period in 2024. Total tourism revenue reached 2,200 billion VND, a 28% increase compared to last year.

Khanh Hoa also shone brightly during this holiday period, with total visitor numbers exceeding 900,000, a 10% increase compared to the same period last year. Total tourism revenue was estimated at 936 billion VND, up 27% compared to the 2024 National Day holiday.

During the 2024 National Day holiday, four provinces and cities in Vietnam achieved tourism revenue exceeding 1,000 billion VND: Hanoi, Quang Ninh, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City. Several others reached nearly 1,000 billion VND. However, this year, apart from Hanoi, Da Nang, and Khanh Hoa, which experienced remarkable growth, most other provinces and cities had a quieter 4-day holiday than usual.

According to Thanh Hoa's Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the impact of storms, especially the National Day parade held in Hanoi, significantly reduced the number of tourists visiting Thanh Hoa during this year's holiday. Visitor numbers decreased by nearly 84% compared to the same period in 2024, and total tourism revenue dropped by almost 83%. Hotel occupancy was around 10%.

Nghe An, among the top 10 localities with high tourism revenue during the 2024 National Day holiday, saw more modest revenue this year, reaching 519 billion VND, a 20% decrease compared to 635 billion VND last year. The number of visitors also dropped by 20% compared to 320,000 last year.

Quang Ninh welcomed 75% of the visitors compared to the same period last year, and total tourism revenue reached an estimated 932 billion VND, equivalent to 90% of last year's figures. Visitors concentrated at popular tourist destinations such as Ha Long Bay, Sun World Ha Long Park, Quang Ninh Museum, Yoko Onsen Quang Hanh hot springs, Cai Bau Pagoda, and the Yen Tu historical and scenic site, and Ba Vang Pagoda.

A highlight of Quang Ninh's National Day holiday was the arrival of 4 ultra-wealthy American tourists who flew on a private jet to Van Don Airport, then enjoyed tours and overnight stays on a boat in Bai Tu Long Bay and Ha Long Bay. According to Quang Ninh province, this event is a positive sign for their plan to attract high-quality tourists.

Some provinces saw increased tourism revenue and visitor numbers compared to the same period last year after merging with other areas. Ca Mau welcomed nearly 121,000 visitors, with total tourism revenue reaching 126 billion VND, both increasing by nearly 20% compared to the same period last year.

Quang Tri province welcomed an estimated 223,000 visitors, a 4.4% decrease compared to the same period last year. Quang Tri's Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism reported that the weather during the 2025 National Day holiday was quite unfavorable due to Typhoon No. 6. Many tourist attractions in the province, especially in the Phong Nha - Ke Bang area, had to temporarily close. However, total tourism revenue reached 257 billion VND, an increase of nearly 7% compared to the same period last year. Lam Dong province, after merging, welcomed 590,000 visitors, an increase of nearly 7% compared to the same period in 2024, with estimated revenue reaching 715 billion VND.
