Inside Hanoi's 'world's best' hotel

With service described by guests as "like coming home", La Siesta Classic on Ma May street surpasses many big names to rank 12th among Tripadvisor's 25 best hotels in the world.

The space of one of the hotel's two spas.

With a perfect 5/5 score for both "cleanliness" and "service" from over 7,000 reviews, La Siesta Classic Ma May is the only representative in Hanoi honored in the top 25 best hotels in the world for 2024 by the global travel platform Tripadvisor.

This is the most prestigious ranking in Tripadvisor's Travelers' Choice Best of the Best awards system.

Bearing the hallmarks of old-quarter architecture, the staircase from the 9th floor to the sky bar is quite small, creating a sense of discovery before opening up to the airy space above.

Nha Anh, a media representative, said the hotel follows a boutique model (small and cozy) with the goal of being a "companion secretary" throughout the guests' stay.

"The difference lies in the art of understanding customers," she said. The staff is expertly trained to remember names and understand each guest's preferences, "from their morning tea to how they like their blankets folded," providing a personalized experience that few places offer.

The sky bar overlooks the old quarter, highlighted by a model of Long Bien Bridge. Here, guests can watch fireworks over Hoan Kiem Lake on special occasions.

The space prioritizes privacy and coziness, suitable for individual travelers or small groups. Therefore, the hotel does not have large-scale amenities like a swimming pool or children's play area.

In the photo, the spa is located on the same floor as many rooms for maximum guest convenience.

The hotel has 70 rooms, targeting mid-range and high-end guests with prices starting from 2.5 million VND per night. According to Nha Anh, this clientele is mainly foreigners, accounting for 95% of the guests staying there.

Pictured is the 40 m2 La Siesta Suite on the 9th floor, featuring a large balcony and the hotel's highest-priced room category, ranging from 5-7 million VND per night depending on the season.

The highlight of the suite is the spacious balcony, where guests can admire the old quarter through the dense tiled roofs – a characteristic scene of Hanoi.

Nha Anh shared that the philosophy of "serving with all our hearts" has helped the hotel win over guests and has been included in Tripadvisor's "Best of the Best" list for many years since its opening in 2014. "We strive for every detail, from the aroma and the food to the itinerary suggestions, to reflect the essence of Hanoi, giving guests an authentic local experience," she said.

Centrally located, the hotel is also an ideal starting point for guests to stroll and explore Hoan Kiem Lake or the food streets in just a few minutes.

Rafid, a British tourist, stayed at the hotel for two nights with his family. He said he usually reads reviews on Tripadvisor when traveling. However, he chose this hotel for his stop in Hanoi after reading an article in The Times.

"Everything was as expected, the service was excellent, and the staff was very helpful," he said, emphasizing the delicious food and variety of choices.

Located on the first floor, the hotel's restaurant specializes in Vietnamese cuisine, not only for guests but also open to outside diners. The cost of a meal here is about 450,000 VND per person.

Sharing about future plans, the hotel representative said they will enhance green spaces for a sustainable vacation experience. In addition, activities that help guests connect with the local culture, such as food tours, cooking classes, and workshops, will also be expanded.
