On 21/7, Air India flight AI2744, traveling from Kochi, Kerala, to Mumbai, skidded off the runway upon landing at Mumbai international airport amidst heavy rain. The Airbus A320 veered onto the adjacent grassy area.

Indian media reported damage and cracks to the engine cowling and three of the plane's six tires. Air India has grounded the aircraft for inspection.

According to a Mumbai airport official, the incident caused minor damage to the main runway, necessitating a switch to the secondary runway to maintain operations.
This incident follows the crash of an Air India Boeing 787 in Ahmedabad last month, which resulted in 260 fatalities. On 16/7, the Wall Street Journal, citing sources, reported that the black box recording revealed the captain had switched the fuel controls for both engines from "run" to "off".
Air India CEO Campbell Wilson has urged staff to avoid premature conclusions about the accident, stating that the investigation is "far from complete".
