Following a welcome ceremony at the Angolan Presidential Palace on Tuesday morning, Vietnamese president Luong Cuong held talks with president Joao Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço as part of his state visit to Angola.
President Lourenço praised Vietnam's strengths and requested support for Angola's agricultural development, particularly in rice and fruit cultivation, to enhance food security in the African nation.
He expressed a desire for more Vietnamese products in the Angolan market and encouraged Vietnamese businesses to invest and manufacture in Angola. He also proposed increased cooperation in security, defense, mining, and metallurgy.
President Luong Cuong emphasized Angola's importance as a key partner in Africa, highlighting the potential for stronger cooperation and a model "development partnership" between the two nations, exemplifying South-South cooperation.
He suggested increased collaboration in key areas like defense and security, expanding and diversifying existing cooperation in healthcare, education, and agriculture.

President Cuong also proposed enhancing trade promotion, strengthening banking ties, and expediting negotiations on key economic agreements to reach a bilateral trade target of 1 billion USD.
He requested president Lourenço and local authorities to ensure the safety and security of the Vietnamese community in Angola, enabling them to contribute to the development of both countries.
Regarding regional and international issues, both leaders affirmed their support for peaceful dispute resolution based on international law and the UN Charter, promoting peace, cooperation, and development globally.
Presidents Luong Cuong and Lourenço issued a joint statement, demonstrating their commitment to a new phase of bilateral cooperation, and witnessed the signing of several cooperation agreements.

Vietnam and Angola established diplomatic relations on 12/11/1975. Vietnam was the second country to establish diplomatic ties with Angola, just one day after its independence.

As of 12/2024, Angola had 4 investment projects in Vietnam with a total registered capital of over 118 million USD. Vietnam has 4 projects in Angola with a total registered capital of nearly 3 million USD.
Angola hosts the largest Vietnamese community in Africa, with approximately 8,000 Vietnamese people living and working there, primarily in the capital Luanda and other major cities.
