King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Queen Jetsun Pema of Bhutan will make a state visit to Vietnam at the invitation of President Luong Cuong and his wife.

The Bhutanese king and queen's state visit will take place from 18/8 to 22/8, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced today.

This is the first state visit to Vietnam by the Bhutanese monarchs since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 2012.

Relations between Vietnam and Bhutan have seen positive developments in various areas. Diplomatically, the two countries have maintained regular exchanges at all levels.

Economically, Vietnam and Bhutan are working to increase bilateral trade. Vietnam's primary exports to Bhutan include wood, machinery, equipment, spare parts, and other goods. There is also potential for growth in tourism, especially Buddhist and spiritual tourism.

According to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pham Thu Hang at a press briefing today, there are further opportunities for cooperation and development between the two nations in agriculture, tourism, culture, education, science and technology, digital transformation, and green development.
