A cable failure caused a railway bridge under construction in Jianzha county, Qinghai province, China, to collapse around 3 a.m. on 22/8, according to Qinghai's emergency response agency.
Fifteen workers and one manager were on the bridge at the time of the accident. Authorities reported 10 fatalities, 4 people missing, and the status of the remaining two individuals is currently unknown.
Surveillance footage shows the middle section of the bridge collapsing into the river at night, with a portion of the bridge deck submerged. Hundreds of rescue workers are at the scene, according to local officials.
The collapsed bridge is part of the Xining-Chengdu railway, connecting the provincial capitals of Qinghai and Sichuan. It is the world's largest double-track continuous steel truss arch bridge, spanning the Yellow River as it flows through Jianzha county in Qinghai province.
