Brown, a former soldier, lived next to the bar, according to bar owner David Gwerder. The victims, a bartender and three regulars, had no known disputes with the suspect.
"I guarantee he knew everybody in there," Gwerder said. "He didn’t have a beef with any of them. I think he just snapped."
After the shooting, Brown reportedly fled into the dense mountainous forest. Authorities have locked down the residential area and are searching for the suspect, described as "armed and dangerous."
A SWAT team searched Brown’s home. He was last seen in the Stump Town area, west of Anaconda.
Brown served as a tank crewman in the US Army from 2001 to 2005, deployed to Iraq from early 2004 to 3/2005, according to US Army spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Ruth Castro. He also served in the Montana National Guard from 2006 to 3/2009, leaving with the rank of sergeant.
