Australian media on 14/12 reported that the man who approached and disarmed one of two suspected shooters on Bondi Beach was Ahmed al Ahmed, a 43-year-old fruit vendor. Ahmed was shot twice and is currently receiving hospital treatment.
"We don't know his situation now. We hope Ahmed will be okay. He is a hero," said Mustapha, Ahmed's cousin.

A video capturing Ahmed disarming the attacker has been widely shared. Social media users praised his courage and quick thinking, suggesting his actions may have saved many lives. "Most people run to escape danger, but this man did not," one user commented on social media X.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese praised Ahmed and others who "rushed into danger to save people."
New South Wales Premier Chris Minns stated, "Amidst this darkness and sorrow, there are still brave Australians willing to put their lives at risk to help complete strangers."
Speaking at the White House on the same day, US President Donald Trump also offered praise and expressed "great respect" for Ahmed. "That is an incredibly brave man, who went in and directly confronted one of the shooters and saved many lives," he said.

16 people died, including one shooter, and at least 40 were injured after the attack on Bondi Beach. Australian police identified this as a terrorist incident, stating the suspects included a 50-year-old father and his 24-year-old son. The father was shot dead by police at the scene, while the son was seriously injured and is receiving hospital treatment. Authorities are determining the motive for the shooting.
