Nanning city authorities in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, southern China, announced an upgrade of the emergency flood response level from level 3 to level 1, its highest, effective from 11:30 today.
The city, home to nearly 9 million residents, was among areas impacted by Typhoon Maysak, which brought heavy rainfall. Xinhua reported that local authorities confirmed the Liulan Reservoir in Hengzhou district, a medium-sized irrigation facility, had burst.

Nanning authorities mobilized emergency response teams to assist and evacuate residents from affected areas. The full extent of damage and the long-term impact from the reservoir breach remain unknown.
The Nanning Emergency Management Committee reported that since 4/7, most parts of the city have experienced heavy rainfall, with some areas enduring particularly severe downpours.
Typhoon Maysak made landfall on China's Hainan Island on 3/7, marking the first tropical storm to hit the country this year. By the afternoon of 5/7, Maysak had weakened into a tropical depression but still carried the potential for heavy rainfall.
