Medvedev praises Trump

Medvedev describes President Trump as an effective leader, believing the American leader aims to make history as a peacemaker.

In an interview published today by TASS and Reuters news agencies, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev stated that the American people elected Donald Trump as president, and Moscow respects that decision.

Medvedev's remarks came when he was asked whether President Trump had a positive or negative impact on Russia, and to comment on rumors that Trump was a "Moscow agent".

The Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council praised Trump's courage in opposing traditional powerful elites in the US, describing the American President's style as "sometimes blunt but effective".

"He is emotional, but on the other hand, the so-called chaos people accuse him of causing is not entirely true. Clearly, behind it lies a deliberate and well-planned course," Medvedev said.

The Russian official noted that President Trump wants to make history as a peacemaker. "He is truly trying to do this. That is why contacts with Americans have become much more effective," the Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council added.

Medvedev suggested that the key to understanding President Trump lies in his business background. "There is no such thing as a former businessman," he stated, referencing a popular joke from the Soviet era.

However, the Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council seemed to mock President Trump, saying Moscow had "not seen any trace" of the submarines Washington allegedly deployed near Russia. In August 2025, the American leader announced he had dispatched two nuclear submarines close to Russia in response to "provocative comments" from Medvedev.

Regarding the Ukraine conflict, Medvedev said Russia would win, but emphasized the importance of preventing new conflicts. "Ultimately, the goal of victory is to prevent new wars. This is obvious," he stated.

President Trump has not commented on these statements.

Since returning to the White House, Trump has consistently pushed efforts to end the Ukraine conflict and has repeatedly declared that a peace agreement is imminent. The first direct three-way negotiation round between the US, Russia, and Ukraine concluded last week without any results. The next event is scheduled to take place next week in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
