Bangkok police spokesperson Sayam Boonsom said on 28/7 that the suspect in the Or Tor Kor market shooting in the Chatuchak district was a former employee at the market. He had a long-standing grudge against one of the victims, who also worked as a security guard there.
"We received this information from his wife," Sayam said.
Thai police believe the shooting, which killed 5 and injured three, stemmed from a personal dispute. The victims included 4 security guards and one vendor.

Witness Duangnapa Yeerunsiri, 38, was at the Or Tor Kor market with her boyfriend and sister when the incident occurred. She recounted that as they were preparing to leave, they heard gunshots.
"He fired multiple shots," Duangnapa said. "We quickly ducked under a car and called the police."
Videos shared on social media show the gunman carrying what appears to be a handgun at the scene, while people frantically sought cover. The Or Tor Kor market is located near the Chatuchak market, a popular tourist destination in Bangkok.

Shootings are not uncommon in Thailand, where relatively lax gun control laws allow citizens to own firearms. In 10/2023, a 14-year-old suspect used a modified handgun to kill two and injure 5 at a luxury shopping mall in central Bangkok.
A year earlier, a former police officer carried out a gun and knife attack at a daycare center in eastern Thailand, killing 36 people, including 22 children.
