At the Presidential Palace on Sunday afternoon, President Luong Cuong and Governor-General Sam Mostyn participated in a flag-raising ceremony, reviewed the Vietnam People's Army honor guard, and observed a welcoming parade.
Following the welcome ceremony, the two leaders held talks and witnessed the signing and exchange of cooperation documents.

The governor-general is scheduled to meet with Party General Secretary To Lam, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, and participate in other activities.
Australia and Vietnam established diplomatic relations on 26/2/1973. The two countries became Comprehensive Strategic Partners in 3/2024. Bilateral trade in 2024 reached 14.1 billion USD, a 2.3% increase compared to 2023. Australia is currently Vietnam's 7th largest trading partner, and Vietnam is Australia's 10th largest.

Nearly 500,000 Australian tourists visited Vietnam in 2024, placing Australia among Vietnam's top 10 tourism markets. The Vietnamese community in Australia numbers around 375,000, making it the 5th largest foreign-born community there.
