The president's attendance at the high-level General Debate coincides with the 80th anniversary of the UN's founding, reaffirming Vietnam's strong commitment to multilateralism and the UN's core values.
Vietnam's participation in the session reflects its commitment to multilateral cooperation and the UN's agenda. It also underscores Vietnam's foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization, diversification, and proactive international integration.
The visit also coincides with the 30th anniversary of US-Vietnam diplomatic relations and the second anniversary of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Vietnam became the 149th member of the UN on 20/9/1977 and is an active participant in the organization, contributing to its shared goals.
The US and Vietnam normalized relations on 12/7/1995 and elevated their ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2023. Bilateral trade in 2024 reached nearly 150 billion USD, a 20.5% increase year-on-year. The US is Vietnam's second-largest trading partner and a key export market.
