A video circulating on Russian social media on 30/7 shows doctors at a Kamchatka hospital performing surgery when an 8.8 magnitude earthquake struck the region.
Despite the tremors that rocked the building, the surgical team remained calm, holding the patient securely on the table and steadying medical equipment. Russian health authorities later confirmed the surgery was successful and the patient is recovering.
On X, many users praised the doctors as "heroes," expressing admiration for their composure in the face of danger.
"Those doctors deserve medals. Maintaining focus during an earthquake requires nerves of steel," one user wrote.
The 8.8 magnitude earthquake occurred today with its epicenter 19 km below the seabed, about 136 km east of Petropavlovsk on the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia's Far East.
The earthquake triggered tsunami warnings and evacuations in several countries. Tsunami waves hit the coastlines of several Pacific Rim nations, with some areas reporting waves up to 5 m high.
