The Kootenai County Sheriff's Office in Idaho announced on the evening of 29/6 that SWAT team members, after hours of searching, discovered the body of a man on Canfield Mountain, along with a firearm nearby.
The man is believed to be the primary suspect who started the wildfire on Canfield Mountain to lure firefighters to the area. He then ambushed them with a rifle, resulting in two fatalities.
While police initially suspected multiple perpetrators, they later concluded there was only one shooter involved. Authorities have not yet released information about the suspect's identity or motive.

The shelter-in-place order for residents was lifted after the suspect's body was found.
The wildfire on the mountain remains uncontained. Idaho Governor Brad Little described the incident as a "vicious, direct attack on brave firefighters." Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has been briefed on the situation.
