The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced "Operation Midway Blitz" on 8/9, targeting undocumented immigrants in Chicago. This follows repeated threats by President Donald Trump to deploy the National Guard to Illinois.
"For years, Governor JB Pritzker and sanctuary-city politicians have released Tren de Aragua gang members, rapists, kidnappers, and drug dealers onto the streets of Chicago. This endangers American lives and makes Chicago a crime magnet," said DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin.
The DHS also released the names, photos, and criminal histories of 11 "criminal illegal aliens" they claim were released in Illinois and are now wanted.

Governor Pritzker, a Democrat, refuted the allegations, stating the federal operation "is not about fighting crime" and "is only about scaring people in Illinois".
US Senator Dick Durbin criticized the Trump administration's move, saying it "doesn’t make us safer" and "wastes money and stokes fear in an attempt to distract".
"While President Trump continues to be overly focused on deploying troops to Chicago, his administration is stepping up its campaign to arrest hardworking immigrants without criminal records," Senator Durbin said.
President Trump is seeking to deploy the National Guard to Democrat-led cities, including Chicago, where he accuses local authorities of losing control of crime. Last weekend, Trump declared he would show Chicago why the Pentagon was once called the War Department.
