President Donald Trump announced his review of a new negotiation proposal from Iran, though he expressed strong skepticism regarding its acceptance. "I will soon review the plan Iran just sent us," Trump wrote on Truth Social on 2/5. "However, I cannot envision accepting this proposal, as Iran has not yet paid a high price for what they have inflicted upon humanity and the world over the past 47 years."
Speaking to the media before boarding Air Force One, Trump added that "they are about to send the exact verbatim text," promising an update later. When asked if the US intended to resume airstrikes against Iran, he responded, "If they misbehave or something bad happens, then we will consider it. That is a possibility."

Iranian news agencies Tasnim and Fars News previously reported that officials had submitted a 14-point negotiation proposal to the US via Pakistan as an intermediary. This proposal from Tehran serves as a response to a 9-point plan previously put forth by Washington.
This latest diplomatic overture follows a period of military engagement and ongoing tensions between the two nations. The US and Israel launched an offensive against Iran on 28/2, with fighting ceasing after a ceasefire on 8/4 to allow Washington and Tehran to negotiate. While Iran maintains control over the Strait of Hormuz, the US has imposed a blockade on Iranian ports in response.
Trump had rejected an earlier proposal from Tehran this week. An Iranian official stated that this previous proposal included resuming maritime activities through the Strait of Hormuz and the US ending the blockade of Iranian seaports, with Tehran's nuclear program issue to be addressed at a later stage.
