Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced today that during talks with US President Donald Trump at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida on 28/12, Washington offered "robust" security guarantees for Kyiv for a 15-year term, with the possibility of extension. However, Zelensky desired a longer duration.
"I told US President Donald Trump that we have been in a state of war for nearly 15 years. Therefore, I truly want security guarantees to have a longer term. We genuinely want to consider the possibility of 30, 40, or even 50 years. The US president said he would think about it," Zelensky stated.
Zelensky expressed a desire to hold a meeting with European and US officials in the coming days to discuss documents aimed at ending the conflict with Russia.
"We want this meeting to take place, and I believe we will do everything possible for an advisor-level meeting to be organized in Ukraine," Zelensky said.

According to the Ukrainian leader, the country will lift martial law as soon as the conflict with Russia ends and after Kyiv receives security guarantees from the West. "Without security guarantees, this war cannot be considered truly over," he emphasized.
He also stated that any plan to end hostilities must be signed by Ukraine, Russia, Europe, and the United States.
After nearly three hours of talks at Mar-a-Lago, Trump highlighted that both sides had made significant progress in efforts to end the conflict. However, he noted that the agreement on security guarantees for Ukraine was only about 95% complete and expected European countries to assume most of the responsibility with US backing.
Both leaders acknowledged a lack of consensus on the future of the Donbass region, which includes the Donetsk and Lugansk provinces. Zelensky reaffirmed his position that the Ukrainian people would decide territorial issues.
