US marine accused of spiking drink with abortion pills

A Texas woman is suing a marine named John, alleging he secretly added 10 abortion pills to her drink, causing her to miscarry at 8 weeks pregnant.

Julia, a separated Texas woman, filed a lawsuit on 11/8 against Aid Access, an abortion pill provider, its founder Dr. Rebecca Gomperts, and John, a US marine, according to her lawyer, Jonathan Mitchell. Julia's name has been changed to protect her identity.

The lawsuit alleges that after Julia told John about her pregnancy, he pressured her to have an abortion and ordered abortion pills online from Aid Access, a service that delivers abortion medication across all 50 US states.

When Julia refused to take the pills, John, whose name has also been changed, threatened to testify against her in her ongoing divorce proceedings.

In 4/2025, John offered to visit Julia's home for a "trust-building" evening. While Julia stepped outside to call her dog, John allegedly added at least 10 abortion pills to her hot chocolate.

Shortly after consuming the hot chocolate, Julia experienced severe cramping and bleeding. John said he would pick up Julia's mother to watch her children and then take her to the emergency room. However, he left and did not return.

Julia later discovered the packaging from the mifepristone pills John had ordered from Aid Access. She also found an orange bottle containing both mifepristone and misoprostol, two common abortion medications in the US.

She rushed to the emergency room but ultimately miscarried at 8 weeks pregnant. There is currently no medical test that can definitively prove the miscarriage was caused by the abortion pills.

In addition to accusing John, Aid Access, and Dr. Gomperts of violating several Texas laws, Julia's lawsuit claims they violated the US Comstock Act, which prohibits sending abortion-related items or materials through the mail.

Aid Access, Gomperts, and the US Marine Corps have not commented on the incident, while John declined to comment.
