Driver flees after opening door causes collision

A white car's driver-side door suddenly opened, causing a motorcyclist to collide with a black car on Xo Viet Nghe Tinh street on 14/3.

The incident occurred on a busy road where a line of cars was stopped, waiting for a traffic light. A white car's driver-side door unexpectedly opened just as a motorcyclist approached, causing the rider to be thrown into a black car stopped nearby.

When the black car's driver and the motorcyclist asked the person who caused the accident to stop and resolve the issue, the driver of the white car unexpectedly sped off as the traffic light turned green.

Driving safety guidelines emphasize careful observation before opening a car door. Drivers and passengers should look forward, backward, and to the side where the door will open. It is advisable to open the door slightly, about 15 cm, and thoroughly check for approaching pedestrians or vehicles. Only when it is safe should the door be opened slowly to exit.

Under Decree 168/2024, individuals who open car doors or leave them open unsafely face fines ranging from 4-6 million VND. If such actions lead to a traffic accident, the penalty for the violator increases to 20-22 million VND.

Crucially, in the event of a collision, drivers are legally obligated to stop and resolve the situation. Fleeing the scene is strictly prohibited, as it can result in severe legal consequences.
